How to use CIPD to scope out your answers?

A few examples would be fantastic as I am not very clear about how to use this information from the HR profession map to scope out my answers. I did contact the CIPD helpline twice and each time their answers couldn’t be more vague….as if they would let the cat out of the bag!!
