How scary is it to drive Going-to-the-Sun Road?

The road is one of the most scenic drives in the United States, but in some parts, it gets your heart racing – especially when it is your first trip on the road. Each time you use it, you’ll find it easier. It just takes some getting used to.
Is Going-to-the-Sun Road open right now?
Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road now fully open WEST GLACIER — The iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road officially opened Friday morning for the 2021 summer season. The road may now be accessed by motorized vehicles all the way through from both the West Glacier and St. Mary entrances.

The Going-to-the-Sun Road from West Glacier to Lake McDonald Lodge is plowed and open year-round, weather permitting.
Can you drink water from Glacier National Park?
Glacier National Park’s lakes act as mirrors, reflecting the grand expansive sky and mountain peaks. And although the water may appear safe to drink, without proper treatment through a portable water filter, the water from these lakes can infect you with viruses like Giardiasis or Cryptosporidium. Not to worry though.
Can you drive Going-to-the-Sun Road after 5pm?
You will only be visiting Many Glacier or Two Medicine areas of the park and do not plan to drive Going-to-the-Sun Road. You are entering the park before 6 am or after 5pm. Reservations are not required outside of regular park hours when the entry stations are not manned.
Is the going to the Sun Road open?
The famous Going-to-the-Sun Road traverses the width of Glacier National Park and is a must-drive while you are here. While sections of the road are open year-round, the high alpine sections typically don’t open until late June or early July depending on weather.
