Data Domain (NASDAQ: DDUP), the leading provider of Enterprise Protection Storage systems for disk backup and network-based disaster recovery, today announced a major upgrade of its entry and midrange systems that drives continued price/performance advances across the entire product line. Like Data Domain high-end solutions, the new DD510, DD530, and DD565 systems leverage the power of Data Domain's SISL(TM) (Stream Informed Segment Layout) scaling architecture to dramatically increase throughput performance. Data Domain systems continue to ride the price performance wave of multi-core processor architectures and avoid dependency on oversized storage subsystems for throughput.

The new DD510 entry appliance offers up to 290 GB/hour of inline deduplication backup and restore performance. The DD530 and DD565 midrange systems, with up to 360 GB/hour and 630 GB/hour respectively, provide major price/performance improvements and more capacity for extended online retention. Like all Data Domain systems, the new systems are simple to install and flexible enough to be implemented into existing user environments without disruption. Data Domain supports all leading backup software products on any storage fabric.

"With the introduction of its new systems, Data Domain has raised the bar significantly in the entry and midrange segments of the Capacity Optimized Storage market," said Arun Taneja, founder of The Taneja Group. "By delivering dramatically increased performance and capacity across its entire line, Data Domain has confirmed that its architecture scales beautifully with processor speeds and the number of processors. This should stand them well in the future, as they ride the Intel architecture curve. And with similar price points to its previous product line offering, the price/performance value proposition has been further elevated."

Data Domain systems can automate WAN vaulting for use in DR, remote office backup, or multi-site tape consolidation. All Data Domain systems deduplicate data inline, before storing to disk, and replicate deduplicated data while the backup is in progress. This means disaster recovery (DR) sites synch up much faster with primary storage than before.

"This announcement underscores Data Domain's ability to continuously set new standards in dedupe price/performance," said Brian Biles, co-founder and VP of product management at Data Domain. "With the new systems, our customers can economically increase performance, online retention and off-site vaulting for DR."
