SGT. 1460 TOBY HINTON
Toby  Hinton is a film director/producer . He has been serving with the Vancouver City Police Department since 1989, all of which time has been spent patrolling and walking the beat in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. He was partnered with Al Arsenault walking the beat and he is now his Sgt. in charge of the City Wide Enforcement Team. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Political Science from Simon Fraser University. In addition to filming, directing and editing Odd Squad projects, Toby is also active in the sport of Judo, and is one of the coaches of the Vancouver Police Judo Club
P.C. 970 AL ARSENAULT
Al Arsenault is a film director/producer with Odd Squad Productions Society and was a 27-year veteran with the V.P.D. upon his retirement in May 2006. Al did extensive beat work in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, most recently under Sgt. Toby Hinton, his former partner. Al possesses a B.Sc. Degree in Geography and Geology from McMaster University (1977) and a B.Ed. Degree in Geography and Physical Education from Queen’s University (1978). Al’s interest in photography lead to his taking of numerous candid photos of life in the skids in which he has spent five tours of duty during his street-oriented career. These artistic exploits were the seed for educational slide shows that led to the making of Through a Blue Lens (1999) and Flipping the World (2000). He is the author of a martial arts book Chin Na in Ground in Ground Fighting (2003) and he serves as an assistant instructor with the VPD Judo Club.
P.C. 1607 MARK STEINKAMPF
Mark has been a police officer since 1991, with many years experience working in the skids as well as over five years service in the Emergency Response Team.
He enjoys running, weightlifting and is also a black belt member of the Vancouver Police Judo Club. Mark had served 3 years in Oakalla (as a prison guard) and 3 years as a Sheriff. Mark uses both photographic and video equipment to depict life in the skids. Mark is currently working as a beat officer in the Downtown Eastside as a member of the City Wide Enforcement Team.
DET./CST. 1307 CHRIS GRAHAM
Chris has been a member of the Vancouver Police force since 1985. He has had a varied policing experience that has included 6 years of Patrol in the Downtown Eastside, 3 years as a School Liaison Officer, and 5 years in the Drug Squad. Chris is currently working as an investigator in the Integrated Provincial Unsolved Homicide Unit. Chris is working with Randy Miller (recovered addict from Through A Blue Lens) and several Western Hockey League teams to deliver drug education workshops to school-aged children, including the NHL-sponsored Hockey Education Reaching Out Society ( HEROS) for inner city youth. Chris was the executive producer of the ON THE BEAT compilation CD, an album of songs about the downtown eastside and themes of addiction written by local and international artists.
