Two major technology trends are making a significant impact on the information technology (IT) market today, both experiencing rapid growth and resulting in dramatic and beneficial changes for the industry.

The first of these is IT virtualization and a resurgence of consolidation. The move toward consolidation of servers and storage produces a number of undisputed benefits to IT, including reduced operational expenditures (OPEX) and capital expenditures (CAPEX), as well as increased performance, uptime and ease of management. This paper will discuss why 10GbE technology has led to more recent move of even the largest and most demanding consolidation and virtualization projects to IP SAN.
