Genie-soft, an established developer of backup and security software solutions, today announced that its 8.0 release of Genie Backup Manager Software products will have advanced support for Iomega REV Backup Drives. This latest release of GBM products adds Disaster Recovery, robust connection management, advanced job scheduling, and built-in open file backup support; while maintaining the easy-to-use wizard-based interface.
Genie-soft has worked closely with Iomega Corporation to implement basic support for Iomega's REV 35GB and second generation 70GB drives. The collaboration also led to the development of new features, most importantly One-Step Disaster Recovery which enables GBM users to create Windows bootable REV disks that contain both the system files as well as the backup data. Restoring a complete system is done in one step only. Work is currently under way to enable GBM products on Iomega REV automation loaders and other future Iomega REV products.
"Genie-soft delivers on its promise of allowing cost-conscious users and businesses access to the latest data protection technology. The rounding up of features and simplification of the User Interface combined with support for Iomega's REV drives allows the implementation of backup plans at performance/price points unheard of in the past." said Muayyad Shehadeh, CEO and president of Genie-soft Corporation.
Loren Bryner, worldwide product manager for REV products at Iomega, said, "We're very happy that Genie-soft has built advanced support for REV technology into its latest release of Genie Backup Manager Software products. Iomega's REV Backup Drives deliver easy-to-use, robust backup and archiving with removable storage that today's SMBs and others require to protect the digital assets of their business. Combining native support from Genie-soft's latest backup software with Iomega's REV technology is a win-win for today's small and mid-sized enterprises."
Iomega REV Technology
The Iomega REV Backup Drive is a proven technology that is becoming a small business backup and archive storage standard around the world. The first REV product was introduced in April 2004 with the debut of the Iomega REV 35GB Backup Drive and the 35GB REV disk. The second generation REV 70GB Backup Drive and 70GB disk was launched in 2006. To date, Iomega has sold approximately 300,000 REV Drives and more than 1.5 million REV Disks. The REV Drive has also won more than 25 technology awards worldwide.
The Iomega REV 70GB Backup Drive, ideal for server implementations, is available in external USB 2.0 and internal ATAPI and SATA models. The Iomega REV 35GB Backup Drive, targeted to desktop backup and archive applications, is available in ATAPI, external USB 2.0, FireWire®, SCSI, and SATA configurations. Rather than a typical 1U rack carousel automation form factor, Iomega REV desktop autoloaders utilize a single drive on an elevator that goes up and down to ingest one of up to eight REV disks inserted in to the loader. Iomega's desktop REV autoloaders include the REV Loader 560, which uses a single REV 70GB drive and holds up to eight REV disks for up to 560GB of native storage capacity.
Removable Iomega REV disks, with an estimated archival life of 30 years, are highly portable (0.4 inches x 3.0 inches x 2.8 inches) and combine the speed and reliability of a hard drive with the removability of tape. Reliability, ruggedness, security (with disk password protection), instant access to data, archivability and no maintenance are all advantages of REV products.
Iomega REV products are available from a large base of value-added resellers (VARs), systems integrators (SIs) and others that work directly with small businesses on their storage and data protection needs. Thomson Grass Valley REV PRO products, designed specifically by Iomega for the professional audio/visual industry are available from Grass Valley distributors and resellers.
