AV vendor responds to channel feedback by removing the plastic ‘feet’ fromsome its large format products

Audiovisual (AV) vendor NEC Display Solutions is removing its free ‘feet’ from a number of its products to minimise the environmental impact of display solutions.

Research conducted by the vendor, with its channel partners, has revealed that the majority of end users never use the free ‘feet’ included in a number of its large format products, as the screens are typically wall, ceiling or trolley-mounted.

The vendor is removing the ‘feet’ to save on the use of plastic, reduce the box weight of the screens, eleminate the need for extra packaging and avoided them being simply discarded.

The first products which will no longer be shipped with feet are the LCD3210, 4020, 4620 and 5710.

Barrie Guy, head of large format displays at NEC Display Solutions, said: “Increasingly, the tenders we respond to with our partners are requiring more focus on recycling and environmental compliance issues, so we have happily responded to growing customer demand. NEC is committed to being environmentally pro-active across all of its business areas and this simple step is just one of many which are underway.”

This initiative follows NEC Display Solutions being awarded Silver Electronic Product Environmental Tool (EPEAT) status, an American-based independent test and accreditation body.
