On June 28, 2007 the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services announced that it had chosen Twenty First Century Communications as its emergency notification system provider.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously authorized the purchase of TFCC’s Universal Communications System (UCS).
The UCS system will replace an existing "reverse 911" system and will be used to notify county residents in the event of an emergency.
In the wake of the 2003 wildfires, it became clear that the county needed some type of mass notification system.
Whether the emergency is a wildfire, an earthquake, an occurrence of avian flu, or missing children, the Universal Communications System will get the right message to the right people - instantly. The County can use UCS to mobilize First Responders, inform Law Enforcement, or alert the general public.
Twenty First Century Communications’ mass notification system is more advanced than the County’s current system. In just a matter of three hours, every household in the county can be alerted to a disaster. Currently, San Diego County has a population of a little less than 3 million residents.
In addition to landline and cellular phone calls, the system is also capable of sending out mass e-mails and text messages in the event of an emergency.
