Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on the US Gulf Coast in 2005, causing the worst human death toll from a weather event in the United States since the 1920s. However, US National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield warns that Katrina was nothing compared with the big one yet to come.

After his repeated warnings of an impending hurricane, more disastrous than Hurricane Katrina, fell on deaf ears, Mayfield ended his 34-year government career with the National Weather Service in search of a more accepting platform to voice his message.

He believes that U.S. residents of the Southeast are risking unprecedented tragedy by continuing to build vulnerable homes in the tropical storm zone and failing to plan escape routes.
