Fujitsu Canada today announced that Ceryx, a leading email and messaging service provider focused on business-critical communications, has selected Fujitsu ETERNUS storage for its dedicated, managed and hosted Microsoft Exchange services.

Ceryx is the only provider in existence today offering real-time, fully replicated Hosted Microsoft Exchange messaging services spanning two redundant data centers, located in Canada and the United States. Fujitsu ETERNUS storage complements the existing highly available Ceryx infrastructure, ensuring application reliability, enhanced performance and a more cost-effective way to scale services for future growth.

Ceryx delivers premium and highly available electronic messaging services for mid- to large-size enterprises using an advanced and uniquely designed Microsoft Exchange-based IT infrastructure that companies typically cannot afford to engineer on their own. By outsourcing email and other critical messaging services, businesses can reduce their capital costs and more accurately predict the cost of future scaling, while greatly improving messaging performance, reliability, and security.

Prior to the Fujitsu ETERNUS storage solution, Ceryx used direct-attached storage (DAS). Faced with increasing customer storage requirements, Ceryx determined that expanding the existing disparate storage systems with multiple hardware, software and maintenance purchases and contracts would become too expensive. Fujitsu ETERNUS, with its high reliability, centralized storage management, and lower total cost of ownership, allows Ceryx to continue to add more storage capacity far more economically while at the same time ensure optimal levels of performance for a "near local" user experience for its customers.

"With excellent price performance and simplified storage management, Fujitsu has enabled Ceryx to cost-effectively optimize its IT environment for critical business growth," said Dr. David Penny, CIO at Ceryx. "Fujitsu’s renowned reliability and customer service have made our transition to a more future-proofed infrastructure painless."

"Like hundreds of organizations, Ceryx has discovered that the features and flexibility of Fujitsu ETERNUS storage solutions enable our customers to maximize their storage resources, cost-effectively scale their businesses to meet future growth, and fully protect sensitive and business-critical information," said Richard McCormack, senior vice president of marketing for Fujitsu Computer Systems.

Fujitsu ETERNUS8000 and ETERNUS4000 Core Product Features

Built-in Disk Data Encryption Minimizes Risk

ETERNUS8000 and ETERNUS4000 can automatically store data using 128-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), minimizing the risk to a business of illegal or inappropriate data access when a disk is removed from an ETERNUS storage system.

MAID for a "Green" Infrastructure

ETERNUS8000 and ETERNUS4000 feature an Eco-mode that reduces power consumption and extends the life of disk drives. Using MAID (Massive Arrays of Inactive Disks) technology, Eco-mode stops drive spindle rotation when disks are not being accessed. Fujitsu includes information lifecycle management (ILM)-ready tiered storage, including MAID, at no extra cost.

Replication over Distance for Greater Efficiency and Disaster Recovery

Remote Advanced Copy functionality allows data to be replicated between multiple ETERNUS storage systems during business operation without increasing the load on servers. Both synchronous and asynchronous replication methods are supported, so replicated volumes can be located on a geographically separated ETERNUS storage system without sacrificing access performance on the production servers in the primary center.

iSCSI Connectivity for Lower-Cost Data Transfer

The addition of iSCSI host interfaces to ETERNUS enables lower-cost, high-performance LAN-WAN-LAN connections. ETERNUS provides IPsec (Security Architecture for Internet Protocol) on iSCSI to encrypt data transmitted across the LAN/WAN network. This feature enables organizations to use lower-cost IP circuits to build cost-effective disaster recovery systems with data-protection mechanisms.
