Asocs has licensed Wipro-NewLogic's WiLD 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN MAC IP and integrated it into the Wi-Fi software module of its single-chip MultiComms processor This unique effort results in affordability and mass penetration of wireless convergence solutions due to its low BOM cost and very low power consumption With proliferation of multiple wireless technologies supporting different networks (PAN, LAN, WAN and MAN) and applications (data transfer, voice, video), convergence of wireless solutions in handheld devices is an inevitable phenomenon.

There can be various approaches to drive this convergence but the key is to deliver a low cost, low power, low die-sise solution which will be able to scale for multiple current and future protocols.
