Fast, flexible and powerful encryption lets users protect and share sensitive information.

Data Encryption Systems Limited, the UK-based leader in software copyright protection, data encryption, secure messaging and data storage solutions, has released a updated version of its popular DESlock+ data encryption software, designed specifically for Windows Vista.

DESlock+ (www.deslock.com) provides powerful encryption of documents, folders, disks, removable storage media, and computer systems. It can also encrypt email messages prior to transmission, create encrypted compressed archives, and even encrypt the contents of the Windows clipboard (useful for encrypting a block of text before pasting it into an email or another document). DESlock+ uses a system of keys to specify whether a user can exchange encrypted documents with others, who must share a key with the owner in order to decrypt the document.

"Microsoft has stated that a major objective for Vista was to improve the security of its various professional and consumers operating systems. DESlock+ 3.2.6 significantly enhances the security of Windows Vista, while the DESlock+ Vista gadget makes it extremely easy for non-technical users to secure their systems," said David Tomlinson, managing director of DES. "DESlock+ makes perfect sense for all users of Windows Vista users, but is especially appropriate for laptops, which continue to be a major cause of security breaches."

DESlock+ uses both software and USB hardware keys to protect sensitive data from prying eyes. It operates much like a physical lock and key: the owner of the information defines a unique password to lock and unlock files, folders or even entire disks. Much like the way people share house keys, car keys and office keys, a DESkey can be shared and copied. However, the owner of the information controls dissemination of information by preventing or limiting any recipient's ability to create keys for other users. DESkeys are available in 8-key or 64-key configurations. For additional security and configuration options, an optional, dedicated DESkey USB security token can be used.

New DESlock+ Vista gadget puts security right on the desktop

This latest version (Version 3.2.6) includes a handy Vista gadget, which works either in conjunction with DESlock+ or as a completely standalone utility, providing password-based 256-bit AES encryption from any desktop. Users simply drag files onto the Vista gadget and then enter a password to encrypt or decrypt files from any folder. Users can also right-click on the Vista gadget to encrypt or decrypt the contents of the Windows clipboard. This is an ideal way to quickly and very cost-effectively secure email or any other sensitive information. When used with DESlock+ 3.2.6, the Vista gadget also works with encryption keys and passwords defined for DESlock+.

A DESlock+ trial that includes the Windows Vista gadget can be downloaded from Windows Vista Gadget Gallery.
