XYEG (www.xyeg.ca), the website for guys in Edmonton, has added an innovative new feature to its website which allows members to upload local speed trap locations to their GPS (navigation systems). The speed trap locations have been mapped by XYEG as part of its GuyMaps series, using Google Maps technology. Subscribers can download the speed traps file at www.xyeg.ca.

"With this technology your car's GPS can alert you when you're approaching a known speed trap", says XY Canada's executive editor, Russell Smith. "And unlike traditional radar detectors, this technology is free to our users."

Smith went on to note that XY Canada does not condone speeding. "On the contrary", says Smith. "We're encouraging people to slow down. If you look at our map, you'll see the city is full of potential spots to earn unwanted points and jack up your insurance rates. And these are just the ones we know about. So our best advice: never speed."

The downloadable speed trap file is in GPX (the GPS Exchange Format), an XML data format for the interchange of GPS data (points, routes, and tracks) between applications and Web services on the Internet. The file is compatible with most of the popular GPS systems, including Garmin, Lowrance and Magellan.

A new service in Edmonton, XYEG will be adding useful maps for guys regularly.
