MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS), the leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, today announced that the town of Wethersfield, Connecticut’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is utilizing MapInfo location intelligence solutions to provide employees with instantaneous visual access to critical information about the town’s buildings, systems, infrastructure and layout. EOC administrators can view, manipulate and share maps and analyses generated with MapInfo Professional®, greatly enhancing the EOC’s decision-making capabilities during emergency scenarios.

Wethersfield’s Emergency Operations Center plays a key role in the planning and execution of emergency response tactics that protect the town’s residents and property. Using MapInfo Professional, the EOC creates maps showcasing where commercial businesses, private homes, water lines and power lines are located. These maps link to data, such as number of tenants, routes to the street and dimensions. Emergency responders can easily search, zoom in and out, share and manipulate this information. During an emergency, such as an overturned natural gas tanker, EOC administrators can view the layout of the disaster scene in order to determine what roads lead to it, the area’s population density and which homes and businesses need to be evacuated.

“In emergency situations where every second counts, having the necessary information readily available to EOC commanders is imperative,” said Bill Holler, Wethersfield GIS Administrator. “With the help of MapInfo location intelligence solutions, the EOC can address ‘what if’ questions on the fly for planning purposes or access the most up-to-date information about Wethersfield’s residents, businesses and geography during an actual emergency.”
