Washington Congressional investigators are saying Homeland Security used outdated information when it decided to continue a visa waiver program.
The program allows business travelers and tourists from 27 nations to enter the country with only a passport. In return, those countries do not require U-S citizens to have a visa.
But the Government Accountability Office, in a report released today, says officials did not have the latest information on security risks in participating countries when it reviewed the program two years ago.
The G-A-O report also says the Homeland Security office charged with monitoring risks in those countries is understaffed, with just two employees. It suggests Homeland Security establish points of contact within U-S embassies for help.
