FalconStor Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:FALC), the market leader in disk-based data protection solutions, and Dynamic Solutions International (DSI), a leading international provider of data storage solutions and comprehensive professional services for business and enterprises, today announced that DSI has introduced the FalconStor VirtualTape Library (VTL) solution into the OS2200 mainframe market. This expansion builds on DSI’s success over the past eighteen months with the VTL solution in the Unisys MCP mainframe space.

The FalconStor VTL solution is widely adopted for open systems deployment and is resold by a number of channel partners. Because the solution uses ANSI fibre channel for connection to systems requiring backup, DSI has provided support for Unisys mainframes to their branded version of the solution. DSI’s TapeManager and LibraryManager storage management applications support the VTL mainframe connectivity.

“Unisys end users have long been familiar with DSI as a high performance player in the storage market, so it was no surprise that the DSI9000 FalconStor based VTL was an instant success in the Unisys MCP operating environment,” said Chris Johnson, DSI’s vice president of storage systems. “After a solid year of success in the MCP space, it was only natural that DSI validated the offering in the Unisys OS2200 environment. FalconStor is always delivering new feature enhancements. We are looking forward to introducing new VTL options such as Single Instance Repository (SIR) for efficient data de-duplication and tape stacking.”

With the support of Formula Consultants Incorporated (FCI) at its corporate facilities in Anaheim, CA – who are well known for providing tape management for the OS2200 world – DSI has been able to demonstrate a proof of concept for this environment. "Our company focuses on unique solutions for customers in mainframe environments," said R. Joseph Dale, FCI's President. "Our partnership with DSI was the best choice for our customers as DSI has a demonstrated track record with tape and virtual tape solutions. We are pleased to be able to provide support for this new opportunity to our customers.”

For FalconStor, DSI represents a leading-edge provider of their solutions, and is the only partner that tests and supports the VTL in mainframe markets: “Our partnership with DSI has given us the opportunity to move their branded solution into incremental markets like the Unisys mainframes,” said Bernie Wu, vice president of business development at FalconStor. “DSI has been a solid development and marketing partner of FalconStor and Unisys. The unique combination of their technology and our VTL, their familiarity and experience supporting Unisys mainframe customers, and their partnership with Unisys itself makes DSI the logical choice for Unisys customers looking to move to more advanced, high-performance backup solutions.”
