Twenty First Century Communications (TFCC) is the provider of high-volume crisis notification services to San Diego County. During the recent wild fires, TFCC made over 300,000 evacuation calls in the San Diego area - a key element of California’s proactive, coordinated disaster response.

On January 9, 2008 the California Public Utilities Commission will hold a Workshop on Communication Issues and Best Practices Post-Socal Firestorm.

Twenty First Century CEO James Kennedy will serve on two of five panel discussions at the CPUC workshop: “How Notification System Vendors Responded/Best Practices” and “Next Steps for Improvement.” Mr. Kennedy will discuss the evacuation alerts, answer questions, and present next steps toward continued disaster preparedness in the state of California.

What: Panel discussions featuring telecommunications companies, city and government officials, and others discussing communication issues and best practices learned during the firestorms.

When: Wednesday, January 9, 2008
9:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Where: Caltrans District 11 Building
4050 Taylor St., San Diego

TFCC’s notification team continues to support San Diego County, through measures designed to facilitate flood warnings to the many areas burned by October’s fires. TFCC has uploaded custom GIS-map data to the County’s system, including flood debris layers, a high priority status debris layer, and a 2007 Firestorm Perimeter layer. On November 30, TFCC issued six Flood Alert Advisory alert campaigns for the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services.

About James Kennedy, Founder and CEO

James Kennedy and partners founded Twenty First Century Communications (TFCC) in 1989 to provide electric utility companies with the technology to improve customer service during power outages. Today, over 80 United States electric utilities rely on TFCC’s High Volume Call Answering® system to handle their outage calls.

In the 1990’s, Mr. Kennedy and TFCC developed the Universal Communications System, which provides targeted emergency notification to specific groups and geographic areas. Today, UCS is employed throughout the United States providing the same reliability and flexibility that major utility companies have come to expect from Twenty First Century Communications.

Prior to founding Twenty First Century Communications, Mr. Kennedy held executive positions with the State of Ohio, directing regulatory affairs including energy facility licensing, energy policy, operations review, performance auditing, and load growth forecasting. Mr. Kennedy holds an M.A. in Economics and an MBA from the Ohio State University.
