Continuing a season of tropical storms, floods and mudslides mountainous areas, Thailand's projected weather during August gives reason to be vigilant, a senior Interior Ministry official said Friday.
Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department Director-General Anucha Mokhavet said more tropical thunderstorms were expected to bring heavy rainfalls which could cover as much as 60 to 80 per cent of the country in the coming month.
Flooding and minor mudslides are anticipated in several provinces throughout the country, while low-lying areas in Bangkok could become submerged, Mr. Anucha warned.
Disaster officials have been ordered to monitor water levels in rivers, as well as rainfall levels so that people living in at-risk areas can be evacuated before severe flooding and mudslides occur. (TNA)
