SHARON SPRINGS, Kan. (AP) _ At least 50-thousand customers are without power in western Kansas, where 15-foot snowdrifts have highways sealed shut and brought emergency declarations in 39 counties.

The National Guard overnight delivered generators to be used in assisted living centers, shelters and other facilities without power or water.

Kansas Emergency Management spokeswoman Sharon Watson said Monday morning that ``probably more than'' 50-thousand homes and businesses are without power. Utility crews are working around-the-clock to restore power, but officials say it could be a week or more before the job is completed.

The Kansas Highway Patrol's airplane plans a second search flight today. Two stranded vehicles were found in a flyover Sunday, and their occupants were rescued by sheriff's deputies.

A 48-year-old man was found dead in a home in rural Wallace County in northwest Kansas. A generator was in use in the man's home but the cause of his death is undetermined.

A 250-mile section of Interstate 70 from Salina to the Colorado border reopened last night in both directions, but other roads in western Kansas are still closed. K-Dot crews are working to clear state routes 25, 27, 96, 117 and 161 as well as stretches of U.S. routes 24, 40, 50, 56, and 160.
