After constantly hearing of kidnappings and abductions, many parents are increasingly concerned about their child’s safety. An Oologah company aims to soothe these fears.
The Go Everywhere Tracker is a safety device described as a cross between a GPS tracker and an emergency cell phone. Steve Nunn, CEO and founder of LMK Inc., said the half-inch-thick device was made to provide individuals with a sense of security.
“If sons and daughters have this device, then people can know if something happens to them,” he said.
“Whoever is going to have this has a fighting chance to be protected.”
When the Tracker’s SOS button is pressed it transmits an alarm text and calls one of the designated cell phones programmed in the device. Once the person receives this distressed text and call, they can give the information to law enforcement.
Since the device is also a cell phone, a SIM card is required, and Nunn said it doesn’t matter which wireless company people buy the SIM card from.
“The SIM card comes into play when the Tracker takes the satellite on the cell phone, so we recommend when you’re going to get a SIM card try to get one with the biggest coverage area,” he said.
Nunn said they are in talks with wireless companies to partner with the product.
“This would be ideal for wireless companies because of the revenue this could generate,” he said.
Their marketing strategy is reaching out to the AARP, AT&T and Wal-Mart.
Nunn said what sets the Tracker apart from other such devices is the cell phone capability and lower price. LMK sells its device for $199.99, which includes the Tracker, headset, solar battery and an air-tight inflator case.
LMK hired Tulsa-based Progressive Technology to distribute the device. Nunn said LMK has already sold 1,500. Though the product is being marketed as a safety device for children, he said many law enforcement employees have purchase it and programmed the device to call the station if they are in trouble.
Although every day can present new dangers, Nunn hopes their product will help eliminate some of those.
“We’ve been marketing to anybody that wants to keep track of something or somebody - it gives a sense of security,” he said. |
