ONStor Inc., the leading provider of scalable clustered NAS solutions for the enterprise, today announced that CoreVault, a privately held division of DWL Holding Company, an affiliated company of Dobson Telephone and a leader in secure online backup and recovery solutions, has chosen the ONStor Bobcat Series NAS Gateway and ONStor Mirror software as the foundational disaster recovery solution for its customers. ONStor's ease of use, scalability, high availability, and open storage model were cited by CoreVault as reasons for their choice of the Bobcat solution.
"The ONStor solution is surprisingly easy to use," said Raymond Castor, director of technical operations, CoreVault. "From our comparative evaluations of ONStor with other vendors, we knew the ONStor Bobcat solution would fulfill all of our immediate storage and disaster recovery needs, but the deployment went even more smoothly than we could have imagined. The replication between all sites is efficient and fully functional at every step of the process. We are extremely pleased with the fast response times, which allow us to provide an excellent level of service to our online backup and recovery customers."
CoreVault purchased one high availability cluster of ONStor Bobcats for their primary production site and one single node for their secondary site, thereby establishing a disaster recovery center that provides failover capabilities to protect their online backup and recovery business. The company implemented ONStor Mirror software to replicate data from their primary data center to their secondary facility, approximately 150 miles away, via a Gigabit Ethernet connection. CoreVault needed to replicate data to a secondary site far enough away from the primary site to meet or exceed their customers' demands for security and disaster protection.
"ONStor's success with CoreVault is an early indicator of things to come in advanced replication architectures for mission critical NAS environments," said Brad O'Neill, Senior Analyst, Taneja Group. "The ability to scale across multiple sites in a seamless fashion for disaster recovery and distributed workload management is central to any serious NAS platform. I take this as one more evidence point for ONStor's continuing momentum."
CoreVault evaluated, but ultimately rejected software-only solutions, as they were not robust enough to meet its business needs and only based on Microsoft Windows Server, and instead sought an appliance-based solution that delivers massive scalability. The company also needed a disaster recovery solution that delivered an automated way to replicate data across Fibre Channel or IP -- a fully unattended backup and recovery solution.
One of the gating factors for CoreVault choosing the Bobcat solution was ONStor's extensive range of partnerships with other storage vendors. The ONStor Bobcat NAS Gateway met CoreVault's requirements to deploy a combined hardware and software solution that is able to work with heterogeneous storage and can take advantage of its excess storage, allowing the current IT infrastructure to be leveraged. ONStor was able to provide an open NAS solution that capitalizes on CoreVault's existing storage rather than requiring the addition of new storage. As CoreVault's storage needs grow, they will be able to add storage to the ONStor environment from their preferred storage vendors.
