White Plains, NY - The latest in police and emergency vehicles and equipment will be on display at a county-sponsored demo event to be held on Tuesday, April 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Playland Park in Rye.
Police and law enforcement agencies and officers, fire and emergency services officers as well as municipal mechanics and fleet maintenance professionals are encouraged to attend. The event is designed to keep local municipalities informed about vehicle safety and new technology displays and equipment, and to discuss both operational and maintenance issues pertaining to fleet vehicles. County Executive Andy Spano is scheduled to present opening remarks.
“This event is a great way to keep the lines of communication open between the county, local municipalities, auto dealers and suppliers of equipment,” Spano said. “Police, fire and emergency services personnel, as well as fleet directors and mechanics, have similar issues that can be addressed and resolved in an event such as this.”
Fleet Demo Day is sponsored by the departments of Public Works, Emergency Services, Public Safety and Transportation as well as the Westchester Educational Safety Training (W.E.S.T.) committee. The event will feature vehicle repair methods and recalls, and maintenance of police and emergency vehicles. The latest in fuel technology will be showcased in a hybrid bus. Emergency vehicle driving instructors will give driving demonstrations on a modified cone course. Participants will be able to ride and drive tank, bomb and hazardous waste trucks. Westchester County police’s high-tech computer driving simulator will demonstrate various dangerous driving conditions for drivers to test their skills.
Local municipalities will also display their vehicles for participants to observe advancements in equipment, such as emergency lighting and computers. In addition, auto dealers such as Ford, GM and Daimler Chrysler will be on hand to display police and special services vehicles.
This event is part of the continuing efforts by the county to encourage cooperation and coordination among local municipalities. Registration is required for those interested in riding or driving vehicles at the event. For more information, visit www.westchestergov.com/dpw.
