Synopsis

With processing power spreading onto the network and once-disparate applications, databases, users, and organizations now all interconnected, applications are more vulnerable than ever before-despite sizable spending on firewalls and perimeter security schemes.

While we've talked about the steady drumbeat of fixes being released by software vendors to address a growing torrent of vulnerabilities, increased security risk is only part of the story. The other part of the story is that the new interconnectedness-while benefiting organizations' bottom lines-has also created an increasingly complex, dynamic, and fragile data center.
