FSCC Combines Data Protection Technologies by Websense and GlobalCerts
Financial Service Centers Cooperative (FSCC) the international credit union Shared Branching Network, today announced a technology partnership with two leading data protection vendors, GlobalCerts and Websense Inc., (WBSN) to enhance security measures on the network for participating credit unions representing 12 million members.
Throughout 2006, the FSCC Shared Branching Network experienced tremendous growth in transaction activity -- a trend that demanded attention and a solution for the risks associated with wrongful data exposure incidents. With more than 1,000 branches worldwide and plans to expand to an additional 2,200 locations at select 7-Eleven(R) stores nationwide, data security is a top priority for FSCC.
While FSCC offers a variety of fraud prevention training, tools and disaster recovery services to its member credit unions, they also needed a solution that would protect confidential customer and financial data from being accidentally or maliciously exposed.
"When millions of members who are stakeholders in your organization entrust you with their personal data and financial assets, you need to be sure to have the policies and tools in place to prevent sensitive information from leaking out of your network," said Bonnie Kramer, chief operating officer, FSCC. "We wanted a comprehensive solution that could monitor data in motion, at rest, as well as in use. We decided on Websense Content Protection Suite(R) because of its sheer breadth of coverage and the accuracy of its digital fingerprinting technology."
The Websense Content Protection Suite is an information leak prevention solution that enables organizations such as credit unions to accurately and efficiently discover, monitor and prevent information leaks.
After using Websense Content Protection Suite to establish strong visibility into their data stores, from records databases to faxes and printers, FSCC defined policies and rules to trigger appropriate action when confidential information traversed FSCC's internal system. For FSCC staff, implementing an email encryption system to protect non-public member data from being transmitted in clear text became vital. Ultimately, today both preventative tools are being used internally on a daily basis to secure email and other channels of communication throughout the FSCC organization.
FSCC selected the GlobalCerts SecureMail Gateway for email encryption. The single appliance solution turned out to be cost effective and easy to deploy, with almost no end user training required. "The GlobalCerts email encryption appliance is perfect for customers like FSCC, who have invested in a comprehensive monitoring solution like Websense Content Protection Suite," says Sarah Modigliani, director of product sales and marketing,GlobalCerts. "Our SMG (SecureMail Gateway) encryption gateway allows them to leverage that investment seamlessly, and transparently."
Unlike traditional data protection measures that focus solely on external threats or inbound attacks, the Websense-GlobalCerts solution helps FSCC and its member credit unions address the potentially devastating consequences of the "insider threat".
