Crisis prevention and disaster consciousness are two areas within emergency management, that various governments and organizations are actively drawing public attention towards.

National Disaster Consciousness Month is being observed in the Philippines, and several related activities have been lined up.

ACP has announced an initiative to help small and medium-sized businesses, develop complete property protection and business continuity plans.

GIS software, from GeoSpatial Experts, is being used to teach emergency personnel at the US Navy to respond to spills of oil, chemicals, and other hazardous materials by creating spill simulations.
