After much hyped Japanese release of Disaster: Day of Crisis, Nintendo's first "hardcore" title for quite some time on the Wii, developer Monolithsoft have shed some light on the development process and just what went wrong with the title. Apparently in 2006, Monolithsoft were approached by Nintendo to create an 'epic' game within nine months for the Wii's launch. Monolith accepted the job but ran into something pretty significant during development.

The developers claim that the original gameplay consisted solely of running up to survivors and pressing a button to rescue them. Then, around November 2006, Monolith put the title on hold and reconsidered their options, completely redesigning the game. Monolithsoft then started working on the game again in 2007, in an effort to correct the non-waggle version they previously had planned to release. So, with the game being released and most probably on track for an English release, what do Monolithsoft have in mind for the Disaster series? Alledgedly, the developers are keen to work on a sequel depending on sales.

And considering that, I don't think we'll be expecting a sequel anytime soon, if Japan sales are anything to go by.
