Only 28% of application system projects are completely successful – meaning that the project is completed on time and on budget, with all features and functions as originally specified. This white paper describes, at a high level, some of the many areas to address in the design and development of application systems, and provides suggestions on how to improve the process in order to improve the chances for success.
Application systems are generally best when they are designed and developed using a systematic approach. Seldom does a system evolve into something great over time without standardized processes in place. It is critical to understand the goals, requirements, and expectations of the system before development starts. It is then important to plan for success, track the progress, proactively identify and eliminate obstacles, and then plan to test and roll-out the new system to production.
