IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced backup and recovery software for Microsoft SharePoint environments to help businesses protect, manage and restore business critical data and applications. The new Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) for Microsoft (MS) SharePoint provides backup and restore capability for Microsoft SharePoint, a Web-based workplace for online collaboration, which provides sharing of critical business data and support of Microsoft Office documents.

TSM, IBM’s enterprise data protection software, helps reduce the risks associated with data loss while also helping to reduce complexity and manage costs. TSM plays an integral role in helping customers optimize their storage assets, protect the integrity of their data and comply with data retention requirements; while helping to address storage challenges posed by the ever-increasing explosion of data. TSM for MS SharePoint customers can see all the benefits of the TSM family, such as the ability to manage data in a hierarchy of tiered storage, support for hundreds of devices, and automatic policy-based management of stored objects.

TSM for MS SharePoint offers customers backup and recovery of MS SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and MS Office SharePoint Server 2007 (Windows Storage Server 2.0 and 3.0) environments. This includes site level, sub-site level and item level restore capability, data integrity, integration with both disk and tape backup environments, and policy-based management of backup data, scheduling, monitoring and reporting without locking index files during backup and rendering them unusable. TSM for MS SharePoint complements Tivoli’s data protection software family and now provides complete protection to backup and restore entire IT environments.

"By adding TSM for MS SharePoint to the TSM family, IBM will be offering customers an important business continuity and data protection capability on the Windows platform," said Hershel Harris, VP, IBM Tivoli Storage and Security. "This new TSM product can provide customers with the peace of mind that they can quickly and confidently restore their SharePoint data due to a business interruption of any kind."

TSM for MS SharePoint provides data backup at a granular level, allowing for recovery of all lists, libraries and items, including events, links, tasks, contacts, announcements, discussion boards, surveys, issues, portal links, layout templates, and security metadata. By offering granular capability for backup plans, TSM for MS SharePoint is able to provide flexibility for varying and unique customer environments, as each customer infrastructure is different.

As part of the IBM Service Management initiative, TSM plays an integral role in helping customers optimize storage assets, protect the integrity of their data and comply with data retention requirements.

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Microsoft SharePoint will be available for purchase on May 4, 2007 through IBM and IBM Business Partners. For information about IBM and its storage solutions, please visit http://www.ibm.com/storage.
