In professional sports, successful players and teams, can be made or broken by the quality of the coaching. It's no different in the business world. There are so many businesses and executives today who need help in sharpening up fundamental skills, coaching team members, or assistance in growing departments. As a franchise business consultant, you can provide some relief and help them make the right call.

Continuing the sports analogy, these business consultant "coaches" typically consult, mentor, facilitate, and train people in most of the critical areas of business - marketing, management, sales, IT, etc. Qualified business consultants can call upon their past experience and expertise to offer advice in specialized areas such as starting up a business, increasing profitability, improving systems, expanding operations, and even deciding on the best way to exit a business.

Susan Stilwell, vice president of business development for Business Advisers International (BAI), a business consulting franchise says that today, "There are many threats to small-and-midsize companies that need to be addressed." She says companies like BAI are "trained to manage these threats and turn them into profits." Stillwell says that according to a Right Management Consultants survey, about 47 percent of business organizations surveyed see coaching as essential to their decision-making.

Here's some more hard numbers. Business consulting services generated about $156 billion in revenues in the U.S. during 2006, according to Plunkett Research. That's up 12 percent over 2005 estimates from a U.S. Bureau of the Census survey. Another group, Kennedy Information, places the global consulting market (including management, human resources and information technology consulting) at nearly $280 billion in 2006 and topping $300 billion in 2007.

Looks like becoming a coach could be a winning proposition. And there are a number of business consulting franchises to choose from. Combined with the growing demand in the business world for qualified and talented business consultants, a business consulting franchise could offer a world of opportunity for the "players" and the "coaches."

Companies like The Entreprenuer's Source, Business Advisers International, ActionCoach, and The Growth Coach are all franchise-based and looking for qualified applicants to get in the game.

Most of these franchise companies offer their own unique approach and each emphasizes that their franchisee consultants control their own businesses. As a franchisee, you control your own schedule, location, and client base. Meanwhile, the business consultant franchises provide their franchisees with comprehensive training and access to all kinds of successful business practices and techniques. And of course, franchisees will find extensive and ongoing support and marketing assistance from regional and/or corporate offices.
