Lithuania-based Neurotechnology announced Tuesday the launch of a new iris scanning biometric identification technology for security authorities.

Neurotechnology released the VeriEye SDK iris recognition technology in an effort to expand on its suite of biometric ID offerings for the security market. Officials say the VeriEye offers an iris recognition program capable of obtaining identification even with obstructions, irregularities and deformations in the iris shape.

The VeriEye, which can scan up to 150,000 irises per second, is an effort to address the reality that no two irises are exactly alike. Officials say other iris ID technologies are limited to a program that only recognizes an iris shape if it is a circle.

"We are very pleased to add VeriEye SDK for iris recognition to our line of biometric fingerprint, face and object recognition technologies," Justas Kranauskas, Neurotechnology iris identification project lead, said in a statement.

"Having a full suite of biometric recognition modalities allows us to provide a best-fit solution for each customer."
