Most of the research data is created on Linux because image analysis applications are almost exclusively written on this platform. A gigabyte of data acquired by a scientist at MRN will triple in size after being processed and analyzed, and studies typically range from two to eight years; both the raw and analyzed data must remain accessible during that time.
