BOSTON Hundreds of high-tech cameras installed in M-B-T-A stations to watch for possible terrorists are helping transit police solve crimes.

T police say the cameras have helped them solve about a dozen crimes already and expect them to help solve many more.

In the most recent case, a 27-year man was arrested and charged in connection with a gunpoint robbery at the Back Bay Station.

Sergeant Detective Michael Adamson hopes the cameras also act as a deterrent, making people think twice before committing a crime.

The fiber-optic cameras recorded in more detail than older video cameras.

They were funded in part by 23 (m) million dollars in federal homeland security grants.
