Synopsis

There has been much discussion in the media recently with regards to the safety of the occupants of ambulances. However, through the information that has been represented in various forums on this subject, the perspectives of the ambulance manufacturers have been a missing and important element.

The purpose of this paper is to establish the position of the membership of the Ambulance Manufacturers Division (AMD) of the National Truck Equipment Association in regard to ambulance safety and occupant protection. The AMD represents over 90% of the ambulance production of North America, and it is the intent of the AMD to present this document making the AMD’s stated position a matter of public record and the platform from which to encourage further proactive efforts to ensure the safety of all who are served by the country’s diverse ambulance services.
