Synopsis

Each entity (government and business) view risks, threats, hazards, vulnerabilities and their consequences differently. The expansion of terrorism to U.S. soil has caused the perception gap to grow, not to shrink. Solutions and strategies are presented to provide insight for government and business leaders and responders at all levels when interfacing with each other prior to, during and after an event. This article is designed to provide an overview of a practical hands-on approach to identifying and dealing with critical issues when government and business interface during an event in today's complex environment. We are faced with a "crisis." The threat to our national security is growing. It is not a recent phenomenon. The massive modifications to business techniques and systems management brought on by the information revolution can not be overstated or under-appreciated. As businesses modified their processes to take advantage of the competitive benefits of technology, government entities at many levels failed to keep pace. The result is a vulnerability gap that we continue to fail to recognize and appreciate. Strategies and solutions that need to be mapped out to provide integration of incident planning for government and business are not being developed. We have not recognized the new realities of risk in today's global environment.
