Synopsis

The spatial technology industry heritage in the defense and intelligence communities has provided, and continues to provide, a strong incubation space for development of applications, expertise, and infrastructure. We must, however, move beyond that heritage if we are to transition to a robust, commercial, international, market-driven industry. In so doing, we will benefit U.S. communities as well as our economy and society at large.

This column will continue its discusion of advocacy for spatial industry growth — and compare our situation to that of a previous successful industry — in “Growing the Spatial Tech Industry, Part 2,” in the May issue of Geospatial Solutions.
