A southern Minnesota community wants your help as they try to prevent disasters.

Freeborn County is asking folks to fill out Hazard Mitigation Surveys. It's a part of the county's hazard planning. The questionnaires ask about disasters like drought, floods and terrorism. The county will use the information to learn the community's top concerns.

"Interests them as far as what they consider as a hazard. Whether it's what's running down the interstate, hazardous materials, power outages, ice storms, floods," Freeborn County Emergency Management Director Mark Roche said. "So, it's kind of taking an idea, so we find out what everybody's main concern is....so we can start on those areas. First applying for grants to see if we can mitigate some of those dangers that these people are concerned about.
