IBM's new SMB-focused products address concerns about security and disaster recovery.

IBM has claimed it is addressing end-user pain points by unveiling a raft of SMB-focused offerings under its Express Advantage strategy.

The products tackle concerns about security and disaster recovery and target specific vertical markets, according to Jean English, manager of Express Advantage.

IBM Recovery Express is a prepackaged data center disaster recovery solution and IBM Proventia Network Security Express suite is a network security solution based on IBM ISS (Internet Security Systems) technology, according to the company.

The Armonk, N.Y., vendor said the expanded product portfolio, all delivered by solution providers, will also include software that combines IBM's Express Advantage offerings—products aimed at small and midsize businesses—with leading ISVs' software applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Lawson M3, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and SAP All-in-One solutions.

English said the newly available offerings give partners the ability to build solutions for specific vertical markets including customers in fashion and apparel; food and beverage; manufacturing; and automotive.

IBM Financing Advantage, or IFA, is also a crucial part of the strategy, since many SMBs struggle to secure the necessary capital to grow their business, she said.

"All Express Advantage solutions are designed with the specific needs of the midmarket in mind," English said, and integrate with regional IBM business partners to put a local face on IBM's offerings,.

The Express Advantage strategy launched in North America in March 2006 and targets SMB customers and partners with complete solutions customized to meet the specific needs of the midmarket.
